Without a Hitch is Avery Maxwell’s ninth book and her first step outside the Westbrook world she mastered in her first eight novels.
As with her series, in Without a Hitch, she continues themes of chosen family and personal healing, and while all of Avery’s books embrace worthiness and recognizing your worthiness as core themes, none does it quite the way Tilly and Lochlan’s story does. Both dynamic lead characters, from opposite sides of the tracks, are deeply wounded and doubting of their worth, yet each is uniquely suited to shine a bright light on the other’s worthiness and, in doing so, discovers their own.
Without A Hitch is a true standalone, which will enchant readers new to Maxwell’s work, with just enough cameo appearances from old favorites to appease Westbrook fans waiting for the next installment of that series. WoAH has a relaxed rom/com feel and all the raw emotion, and steam fans have come to expect from an Avery Maxwell book. If you like books by the likes of Pippa Grant and Lucy Score, then you should give Without A Hitch a chance.

Thanks to TWSS I got introduced to this author, and after reading Tilly and Lochlan’s romance, I’m a fan for life! I loved this book so much I’ve been bingeing the carp out of the Westbrooks, starting with The Westbrooks: Broken Hearts series. The more I read, the more I love these characters, their found family, and their world.
Tilly Camden is the personal assistant to Colton Westbrook, with dreams of starting her own event planning business. As a big fan of love, weddings, marriage and HEAs, Tilly inadvertently stumbles into acting as a last minute bridesmaid for a complete stranger in order to keep the bride’s spoiled brat of a cousin from ruining the big day and associated events.
Lochlan Bryer-Blaine is the anti-hero. Anti-relationship. Anti-love. Anti-wedding. Anti-marriage. But when attending a wedding he couldn’t avoid, he’s drawn to the bridesmaid who seems to be babysitting a troublesome bridesmaid, and Lochlan is intrigued. After spending one memorable night with Tilly, he can’t get her off his mind. Another chance meeting at a second wedding where Tilly is playing babysitter, and he offers Tilly a deal she can’t refuse, to act as his girlfriend to help Lachlan close a business deal.
We have a bit of a grumpy/sunshine story here, and Tilly is just the best! Her optimism and cheerfulness are contagious, but she has a way of taking charge and putting a naughty bridesmaid in her place when needed. And she’s absolutely perfect for Lachlan!
Add in a hilarious senior neighbor and a terrific group of gal pals, and this one has the perfect elements to make it lively, memorable, and so much fun! But fair warning. This talented wordsmith has some voodoo-witchy-Merlin magic in her words and you’ll be hopelessly addicted after one romance. Go forth and read Tilly and Lochlan’s story, but be prepared to spend time catching up with all of the amazing characters in the Westbrook world.

I am already a major Avery Maxwell fan, but she just keeps getting better and better. I loved this book so much. I had been hoping for a story for Tilly and Lochlan and she did not disappoint with this one. This is a standalone story in the Westbrook world. So if you haven’t read those books you will want to read them next.
It is not often that I am more drawn to the female character in a book than the male. Let’s be honest, we usually read romance for the heroes. But I really loved Tilly in this book. She’s strong and feisty, but insecure enough for me to relate to her emotions. The way she connected with Lochlan, and didn’t feel the need to change him was just so great. And her career is hilarious, and amazing, and so perfect for her.
But just because I loved Tilly doesn’t mean I didn’t also love Lochlan. His quirks, his emotions, his anxieties, his family. It was all great. And the two of them together were hot and sweet and just what I needed in this story.
