I always know when I read a Jasmine Guillory book I will get strong female leads, swoony men, and lots of steam. WHILE WE WERE DATING did not disappoint!
Anna is a great lead! She is fierce, loyal, and strong. She knows who she is and stays firm to that, even in the world of Hollywood where she is a curvy, woman of color. She is ambitious and passionate. I loved her so much!
Ben was the ultimate Cinnamon Roll hero (nice guy). It’s his kindness to all around him that first draws Anna to him and I loved that! He is seriously sweet, but also sexy as hell.
Depression and anxiety are handled well in WHILE WE WERE DATING. There is positive portrayal of Clinical Therapy (YAY!) and I loved how much more comfortable the leads got at discussing mental health as the story progressed.
This is the 6th book in the Wedding Date series and while they are interconnected, each book in this series (including this one) is truly able to be read as a stand alone. The appearances of characters from other books in the series feels like fun Easter Eggs rather than an overwhelming amount of linked info that might leave you lost. So you can totally read this without having read the others.

Jasmine is such a talented author! She writes in such a fun yet witty way that makes you really fall for the characters yet still keeps story light and easy to read! She does an excellent job tackling big topics and mixing in meaningful text that is thought provoking around race and inequality while still staying true and relevant to the storyline! Her talent is quite remarkable and my only complaint is that I’ve read all her books and we don’t have another one coming out soon enough!

I like the way she connects each book — just enough to give a nod to the other characters but not so much that you have to recall the entire background.
