Seven Days in June Summary
Eva Mercy is a single mom and bestselling er*tica writer who is feeling pressed from all sides. Shane Hall is a reclusive, enigmatic, award-winning novelist, who, to everyone’s surprise, shows up in New York.
When Shane and Eva meet unexpectedly at a literary event, sparks fly, raising not only their buried traumas, but the eyebrows of the Black literati. What no one knows is that fifteen years earlier, teenage Eva and Shane spent one crazy, torrid week madly in love. While they may be pretending not to know each other, they can’t deny their chemistry—or the fact that they’ve been secretly writing to each other in their books through the years.
Over the next seven days, amidst a steamy Brooklyn summer, Eva and Shane reconnect—but Eva’s wary of the man who broke her heart, and wants him out of the city so her life can return to normal. Before Shane disappears though, she needs a few questions answered…
With its keen observations of creative life in America today, as well as the joys and complications of being a mother and a daughter, Seven Daysin June is a hilarious, romantic, and se*y-as-hell story of two writers discovering their second chance at love.

A girl and a boy have an intense week together in their senior year of high school. Then it suddenly ends until they both find themselves reunited 15 years later as accomplished authors.
What I liked:
I loved Audre! She was an amazing character. Her and Eva were an awesome pair – and realistic. Kids now are so far ahead of their time. It was cool to have a young perspective.
I liked that the main character was human. She had an issue and it didn’t contribute or take away form the book – it was just a part of the character.
Also, black romance. Gotta love it. Very well written
What I didn’t like:
I hate when characters act like they can’t send a 2 second text. It is never okay to go missing… when you are riding to the airport you can text, waiting for the plane, text; on the plane you can text, riding to the destination, text; in the hospital waiting, text. It’s not the 1800s. I don’t care what happened, theres 2 seconds in all of that to communicate
3.0 out of 5 stars Realistic characters and situations but

difficult to follow and negative potshots at our country left me with mixed, but strong feelings.
So, I’m in the minority on this one, so far. Author, Tia Williams, uses quite a bit of timeline changes while telling this story and none of them are noted. I found it hard to follow and necessary to reread some sections because of that. Each of the seven days are clearly marked and chapters are uniquely titled beyond that. Would it have been so much to note the time/date changes?
Characters are definitely the strong point of “Seven Days In June”. It does take a while to untangle them in the beginning but read carefully and persevere, it’s worth it. My favorite character, by far is Audre, the precocious 12 year old stole my heart and every scene she was in. Despite her difficult upbringing, she’s a resilient, amazing kid. You’re gonna love her. Eva, her mom, Shane – they all took a lot longer to decide on; well, not mom…
Dialogue is good, mixed with e-mail and texts and all of it is loaded with foul language. The se*ual scenes are mildly descriptive and there’s no real violence. There are political snipes that I found offensive, especially Shane making a comment that trashes the American flag. More BLM type comments exist that I could have lived without in a fictional book but as this is about two black authors, so be it. The flag comment, however, is an AMERICAN issue and totally inappropriate, IMO.
All things considered, lots to like about this title and a few concerns; how much they matter is up to you📚

I am beside myself with appreciation for these characters, these words, this book, this author. This story called to me and I felt like I needed to put my entire TBR aside and read it immediately. It was worth putting all other books on hold.
I feel full. Full of love, laughter, warmth, and a dose of reality. This is what romance with substance looks like. When people put romance off for lacking depth, substance, or realness, I will present to them Seven Days in June as a testament to the opposite.
This book is about pain, healing, love without condition. So many one liners that made me laugh and tender moments that touched my heart. I am not big on rereading books, but Genevieve (Eva) and Shane’s story is one I will revisit in the future.

Getting to know each of the characters in this book through their feelings was nothing short of amazing. I laughed, I cried, and yet this author left me wanting more. Each person was dynamic in their own right. The conflict surrounding the love that both Eva and Shane possessed for one another was supernatural and could be felt through pages that had nothing but simple text exchanges. I’m not even sure where to begin on young Audre and her high-powered & zestful personality. This book was totally worth the 24hr binge read.
