This is an easy read page-turning book. It starts with a little girl Lark who is afraid of the dark. Her mother tells her to sleep in the dark to grow strong, but she still insists on some light in order to chase away the monsters. I read somewhere that children insist on monsters being real despite that parents just checked the room (closet and under the bed) because children don’t feel safe. They don’t get enough quality attention and love so they feel insecure and see threats around them that parents can’t protect them from. OK, so after the dark episode, Lark sees her father murdered and runs away.
Then the story goes to Gigi. Gigi is living alone in the forest because she needs some time alone to process a big tragedy. She is also having prophetic dreams and she saw Lark running away. She remembers when her friend comes to tell her that her brother-in-law is murdered and his daughter missing. Gigi will leave the forest in order to help.
