A Message from the Sea pdf Summary
A Message from the Sea pdf book begins, “Captain Jorgan had to look high to look at it, for the village was built sheer up the face of a steep and lofty cliff. There was no road in it, there was no wheeled vehicle in it, there was not a level yard in it. From the sea-beach to the cliff-top two irregular rows of white houses, placed opposite to one another, and twisting here and there, and there and here, rose, like the sides of a long succession of stages of crooked ladders, and you climbed up the village or climbed down the village by the staves between, some six feet wide or so, and made of sharp irregular stones. The old pack-saddle, long laid aside in most parts of England as one of the appendages of its infancy, flourished here intact. Strings of pack-horses and pack-donkeys toiled slowly up the staves of the ladders, bearing fish, and coal, and such other cargo as was unshipping at the pier from the dancing fleet of village boats, and from two or three little coasting traders. As the beasts of burden ascended laden, or descended light, they got so lost at intervals in the floating clouds of village smoke, that they seemed to dive down some of the village chimneys, and come to the surface again far off, high above others.”

Another will written British 🏰 seafaring family relationship adventure thriller short story by Charles Dickens about love 💘, money 💰, and a ships captain from American. I would recommend this novella to anyone looking for a quick read. Enjoy the adventure of reading 👓 or listening 🎶 to Alexa as I do because of eye damage and health issues from shingles. Stay safe 2022 👒😊🏰
5.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable Story

I enjoyed this story. It had enough mystery without too many complexities to satisfy the overall length of it. I would read it again.

2.0 out of 5 stars Skippable

This 1860 story is skippable for all but Dickens completists. It’s a by-the-numbers “stranger with a message” story. However, the story suffers because two chapters – which were not written by Dickens, but by another author – have been omitted from this version. This gives the tale a herky-jerky feel – one minute the characters are trying to figure out a mystery and the next minute they’ve figured it out. Even if one decides to ignore this issue, there just isn’t too much to enjoy here.
5.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful mystery by Dickens

The language and characters are quite dated in this book but it doesn’t detract from the book at all. In my paintings of the sea and sailors at anthonydunphyfineart.com you can see them all in their element.
