The UnHoneymooners Summary

Olive is always unlucky: in her career, in love, in…well, everything. Her identical twin sister Ami, on the other hand, is probably the luckiest person in the world. Her meet-cute with her fiancé is something out of a romantic comedy (gag) and she’s managed to finance her entire wedding by winning a series of Internet contests (double gag). Worst of all, she’s forcing Olive to spend the day with her sworn enemy, Ethan, who just happens to be the best man.

Olive braces herself to get through 24 hours of wedding hell before she can return to her comfortable, unlucky life. But when the entire wedding party gets food poisoning from eating bad shellfish, the only people who aren’t affected are Olive and Ethan. And now there’s an all-expenses-paid honeymoon in Hawaii up for grabs.

Putting their mutual hatred aside for the sake of a free vacation, Olive and Ethan head for paradise, determined to avoid each other at all costs. But when Olive runs into her future boss, the little white lie she tells him is suddenly at risk to become a whole lot bigger. She and Ethan now have to pretend to be loving newlyweds, and her luck seems worse than ever. But the weird thing is that she doesn’t mind playing pretend. In fact, she feels kind of… lucky.

The Unhoneymooners by Christina Lauren -Cute. Appealing. Flirty. Sweet. Adorable. A lighthearted romance with all the feels. Their arguing makes this couple real. Ethan is lovable. The supportive extended family is like a hug.
I love this author. Such a way with dialogue and encapsulating the story.

Written in present tense. I hate present tense. It makes me feel as though I have to hop along the driveway with them. But moving on, it only distracted me a few times so I consider it superbly crafted that I was able to get lost in the movie rather than the sentence structure.

Excerpt:
“I don’t know how it happens, but one minute I’m struggling to swim faster and the next Ethan’s hand is around mine, helping me move toward a small cluster of gray-dotted o’ili. It’s so quiet down here; I’ve honestly never felt this sort of weightless, silent calm, and certainly never in his presence. Soon, Ethan and I are swimming completely in sync, our feet kicking lazily behind us. He points to things he sees; I do the same. There are no words, no verbal jabs. There is no desire to smack him or poke his eyes out—there is only the confusing truth that holding his hand down here isn’t just tolerable, it’s nice.”

3.0 out of 5 stars Unfortunately uninteresting and unimpressed

Look if you are a huge fan of these two authors like I’am than this book is probably going to be a unsatisfying 3 star read .If you don’t know Christina Lauren ‘s writing talent then you might like this read but I’ve read everything they have written and this read was as uninteresting and unimaginable as the title. The story was just juvenile, silly, so surface , no depth, more than half the supporting cast you will never really know and that includes Ethan the main character.I won’t be completely unappreciative because there were a few lines here and there that made me smile but the storyline was overly forgettable. The whole book premise was just dumb and unimaginative, and I didn’t even get a good read on the main character Ethan until the Epilogue, which was so unacceptable. Yes my review is a bit cheeky using “Un “in as many words as I can to match the title but at least I’m making a effort to be clever in my review , I would have appreciated so much if the authors would have tried to make this read a bit clever. So unoriginal, I felt like I’ve read this story so many times.Same overdone story just told with vomit scenes ,paintball scenes and the over use of the word diarrhea. I swear one of these ladies is really into playing paintball because it was a repeat of a overly descriptive paintball game scene that they wrote about a few books back , no more paintball scenes please I beg of you both.Ladies this book is not up to your unbelievable talent , it was unoriginal and you guys are better than this lame read, where was the witty banter , the sexual chemistry and heat and the emotional depth between the two main characters.???Unhappy fan here, underwhelmed read here , please try harder next time because this book was unacceptable for me coming from the duo who wrote so many wonderful well told stories back in the Beautiful Bastard series day.

5.0 out of 5 stars Okay. I LOVE CHRISTINA LAUREN BOOKS!

Okay. I LOVE CHRISTINA LAUREN BOOKS! While I love some of their books more than others, I consistently know I will get a creative romance read no matter what. This book didn’t remind me of any other book I’ve read, which is saying something since I’ve read hundreds of romance books.

When it come to characters, an element I love is close families. Olive’s family may annoy her at times, but at the end of the day, they are the family that supports and loves each other. Something I appreciated about Olive, was that she is still growing. She’s hilarious, and I totally related to her. I always joke that I have the worst luck. Also, I have an affection for bad liars, it really makes for some great comedy! Ethan, Ethan, Ethan. I really wish I had gotten more from him, but I think that is mostly due to it all being in Olive’s perspective. He does give some amazing apologies, so that is a definite plus in the pros column.

Plotwise, this is a damn rollercoaster, and I loved it! You’d think with so many things happening, it would be overwhelming, but the authors did a beautiful job of weaving all of the elements together. I was engrossed in this story and stayed up until 4am to finish it. Yeah, not smart, but it just couldn’t be avoided. I just needed to know what happened! So, I read this book in one sitting, and would definitely recommend it to my fellow romance readers!
