Terms and Conditions Summary

Declan
I’m destined to become the next CEO of my family’s media empire.
The only problem? My grandfather’s inheritance clause. Fulfilling his dying wish of getting married and having an heir seemed impossible until my assistant volunteers for the job. Our marriage was supposed to be the perfect solution to my biggest problem. But the more we act in love for the public, the more unsure I feel about our contract. Caring about Iris was never part of the deal. Especially not when breaking her heart is inevitable.

Iris
My plan to marry Declan was simple in theory. Move in together. Throw a wedding. Have a baby. We set rules to prevent any kind of issues. Ones that were never meant to be broken, no matter how much Declan tempts me. But what happens when our fake relationship bleeds into our real one? Falling in love was never an option. At least not for me.

YESSSSS…. this was everything and more. From Iris and Cal’s friendship was *chef’s kiss*. The banter between them and how he would help and do things for her….ugh. If I wasn’t shipping Iris and Declan from the start I definitely would have wanted a friends to lovers romance from Cal and Iris. This book was everything and more. It was grumpy/sunshine romance with a dash of age gap and marriage of convenience. The angst and back and forth between Iris and Declan was everything.

Icing on the cake had to be him falling in love first….. like it’s so rare a book does this and this one was done exceptionally. I don’t know what was my favorite part more. It could have been when he knew about her learning difference ad changed the way he operated without her even mentioning it or him planning the fake date because he wanted to spend more time with her *swoon*.

One part I didn’t know whether to like or hate was how many times it mention her brown skin. Like I loved that Iris was a woman of color because honestly that is rare. But at some moments in the book I was like is that really necessary. Aside from that this is probably one of my new favorites. Sometimes you can tell how much I love a book by how many highlights I made.

Grumpy boss with feelings that run deeper than he wants to admit? Umm, yes please! I absolutely LOVED my first experience with this new-to-me author’s work – the story gave me Spanish Love Deception/Love Hypothesis vibes, and that’s honestly one of the highest compliments I can pay a book right now. This slow burning love story had me HOOKED the whole way through, and I loved the dynamic between this couple. Our hero is the typical moody, broody billionaire, but he’s got a marshmallow heart for only one girl. His assistant, Iris, has put up with his grumpy demands for the last few years, and she’s the only one who has stuck by his side. I’ve been loving marriage of convenience romances recently, and this one works so well. They have a history to build on, plenty of chemistry, and the shift in their dynamic shakes things up. I loved it!

The story follows Iris, a woman whose boss doesn’t always appreciate her hard work. She’s been working for Declan for the last three years, and it’s a little shocking to everyone that she’s lasted this long. Iris even arranged a marriage of convenience for Declan, only to have it fall apart at the last minute. Declan’s job is the most important thing in his life, and he needed that marriage to make things work. So what does this great employee do? Offer to marry her boss, of course. They may not like each other very much, but they’ve figured each other out over the years, and surely a marriage – on paper – can’t be that bad. But things quickly feel more real than anticipated, and it’s not long before Declan and Iris are seeing each other in an entirely new light.

This plays with a variety of tropes – enemies to lovers, age gap (24/36), office romance, marriage of convenience, grumpy/sunshine – and yet it still feels fresh and vibrant. I loved the tropey goodness as much as I loved the unique, swoony vibes, and I was rooting for this unlikely couple from the very beginning. They have an easiness to their relationship that’s in direct contrast to their constant clashes, and it was so engrossing to watch the sexual tension escalate. It’s a slow burn in many ways, though you can tell that emotions run deeper than either of these commitment-phobic individuals will acknowledge. Watching them try to get it right was light and funny one minute, a little angsty the next, tension-filled – and infinitely compelling. This may be my first time reading something by the author, but it will certainly not be the last. Eagerly anticipating the next installment from this series of interconnected standalones.

Anything and everything by Lauren Asher is pure gold. The plot, the characters, the dialogue, the funny moments, the romance, and the emotional pull she infuses in her stories are always an absolute joy to read. Once again, Lauren did a fantastic job in presenting Iris and Declan’s story.

Once again, we’re back in the fictional world of Dreamland and this time we got to read Declan’s story, the eldest brother of the Kane siblings. In the previous book, “The Fine Print” the moments where Declan appeared, it was clear right off the bat that Declan’s sole purpose in life was to achieve his goal in becoming the CEO of Kane Enterprises, and that was still the plan in, “Terms and Conditions”. Declan being the grumpy man that he was didn’t exactly make things easy, especially when Iris went out of her way in securing a fiancé for Declan, in part of the plan to secure his portion of inheritance his grandfather left him. Surprise, things didn’t end up going according to plan as Iris had hoped and suddenly Iris found herself agreeing to marry Declan. Of course we then got the marriage of convenience trope and it’s one of my favorite tropes! I freaking loved it! Not to mention, the grumpy/sunshine trope, but big emphasis on grumpy because if you thought Rowan was grumpy, wait until you see how much of a grumpy man Declan is.

Early on, I already found myself loving Iris. Don’t get me wrong, I liked Declan, but this book showcased Iris and my goodness this book officially solidified my love for Iris. Make way for Iris people because SHE IS THE MOMENT! Not to mention seeing some of the aesthetic videos about Iris, I was so excited to learn more about her. With the little introduction to Iris in the previous book, I was eager to see what she would be like, and exactly her dynamic with Declan was like in terms of her being his assistant, her backstory, and more. As I continued reading I was intrigued with Iris’s determination with her work ethic and her boss queen attitude. In other words, when I grow up I want to be like Iris. I also found it interesting the reasoning behind why Iris felt the need to work harder than others *no spoilers but you’ll find out while reading* Iris was not only Declan’s assistant, but she played a significant role in most of the projects that Declan worked on, including her ideas, presentations, and more! Iris went above and beyond in her job, but while that was great, majority of the time she didn’t receive the gratitude from Declan at times (in my opinion, Declan sometimes took Iris for granted).

This story had great character development as well as insight into both Declan and Iris’s lives. Iris was a people pleaser, always wanting to do the right thing and making sure everything was accounted for, making sure Declan had everything he needed, but at the end of the day who would provide Iris the care and love she deserved? Obviously in the end she got her happy ending, but the road leading to it wasn’t easy nor was it the traditional way one would expect. Iris was already a strong woman to begin with, but through this book she really started to realize what she wanted out of her life, and didn’t back down when push came to shove (Queen!) Declan was a close off person, one who didn’t trust easily, and was ruthless in both business and live. With more of Declan’s backstory, it highlighted the reasoning why the way that he was, and my heart went out to him like I just wanted to hug him! Over the course of the story, Declan went from being a total serious, grumpy man that hated everything to slowly softening his harsh edges and gradually opened up himself which was amazing.

I honestly felt like Iris was center stage in this story and I was all for it, and I loved the character development with Declan, the grumpy man sure did learn from his mistakes, and seeing him grow into a better version of himself was amazing. As always Lauren just knows how to write a fantastic epilogue/ extended epilogue and I was all smiles, giddy with over excitement and absolute joy! This story was magical, beautiful, funny, witty, meaningful, and romantic. Can’t say enough good things about this story. As always, anything by Lauren Asher is a must read.
