Local Girl Missing Summary
On a winding mountain road into the small town of Denton, Pennsylvania, Detective Josie Quinn finds the body of a local teenage girl, Dina Hale. The sight of plum-colored bruises gathering around the girl’s neck pierces Josie’s heart, but the discovery of a second girl’s empty purse in the dirt nearby gives her a flicker of hope that one person, at least, made a lucky escape.
Dina’s parents are grief-stricken as the town rallies together in a desperate search for the second girl, Alison Mills, who waitressed with Dina at a local hotel. The two best friends were on their way to a shift when they were attacked. Josie was too late to save Dina, but she won’t rest until Alison is home safe.
Hitting a dead-end with interviews, Josie thinks she’s on to something when a photo surfaces suggesting Alison was romantically involved with one of the hotel staff. But when Josie arrives at the man’s house to find a bullet in his head, and the house ransacked, the case comes crashing down.
Evidence of frantic searching at both crime scenes has Josie convinced a twisted killer is on a hunt for something very personal and precious. And that they won’t stop until they find it. But how many innocent lives will be destroyed before Josie can uncover the missing piece at the heart of this deadly puzzle? And what sacrifices will she have to make to find Alison alive?

5.0 out of 5 stars Dynamic Page Turner Filled with Unexpected Twists

Goodness! The latest Josie Quinn book is such a dynamic addition to the series! It can be read as a standalone, but I have enjoyed all of the books and recommend reading them all, even if you start with this one. The book begins with Josie and Noah returning from their honeymoon only to see a deadly assault along the road and a young girl fleeing the scene. The action gets going fast as the detective duo begin to investigate what would make a regular hard-working father attack a teen. There are multiple layers to this tale and a ton of twists that I did not see coming. Allison, the missing teen, has her own hidden secrets, as do many characters in the story. I enjoyed the interactions between Josie and her team, with her leadership and their intuitively knowing what she needs them to do next. The characters were realistically portrayed and relatable, although not all were likable because some were not meant to be. I especially liked the fast-moving plot that kept me reading from one chapter to the next to find out the clues to the mystery and solve it along with Josie. I did not expect the rabbit trail that this book led me down, but it was so enjoyable to get to the satisfying ending. With finesse for the craft, Lisa Regan has woven a story of murder, loss, greed and a broken family, all into one beautiful tapestry that filled my mind with genuine emotion as I read this mesmerizing page turner.

4.0 out of 5 stars Crime thriller and mystery

This is author Lisa Reagan’s fifteenth ‘Detective Josie Quinn’ book, but it’s the first one I have read. It was fine even without reading in order.
Josie Quinn and her husband, Nick, also a detective, are returning from their honeymoon, when the fog gets so bad, they decide to pull off the road. Suddenly a young girl screams and runs across in front of their car and into the woods. They get out to try to track her when they see another teen girl on the ground, with a man strangling her. He keeps saying, “Where is it? Tell me where it is!” That’s how this mystery and crime thriller begins. What was the man looking for? What do the girls know? Who else is involved?
The great thing about Lisa Regan’s writing is that it is multilayered. You think you have figured one thing out but more follow and then more. That results in a lightning paced read that I kept telling myself– I would just finish ONE more chapter, only to repeat that every hundred or so pages! I liked Detective Quinn so much- her character, her humanity, her thought process. I have to go back and read more of the books about her. Good read!

Riveting from start to finish! I’ll admit that I’m late to the party with the Detective Josie Quinn series from Lisa Regan, but in preparation of this intriguing new release I started back at the beginning and binge read the entire series leading up to this fifteenth book in the addictive series. The core characters are hard-working, sincere cops who put their heart and soul into their work and each end up having their turn for drama and intrigue in their own personal life as the series plays out. This particular book brought us into the heart of the case right from the start with a turn of events that sets the stage for murder and mystery as they hunt through clues to find the bad guys. Addictive and satisfying!
I highly recommend this book as well as the entire series to anyone that likes a close knit group of cops that put their lives on hold day in and day out to get out there and solve crimes. The storylines are always a mystery from beginning to end with drama galore and good friends and family playing a core part.

She’s done it again! Ms. Regan has crafted another story that kept me up waaaay past my bedtime last night. But I knew beginning a Josie Quinn novel late in the evening would mean I’d still be reading at 2 am.
I felt this novel had a more ‘outward’ looking slant to it. By that I mean, it was still set in the same small town with the same cast of characters we have come to know like friends, yet the crime story actually started outside the town of Denton years before. But the consequences took root in Josie’s small town with explosive results. Bravo to the many twists and turns this story took. Kept me guessing. I will add I enjoyed seeing more of Josie and Noah’s personal relationship included in the storyline.
