In the book of Exodus chapter 1 vs 16, we read that Pharaoh made a proclamation mandating the Egyptian midwives to kill all male children born to the Israelites. This harsh and brutal proclamation must have sent shock waves down the spines of every Jewish parent. In fact, according to some Jewish interpretation of the scripture, Amram the father of Moses did not want to continue procreating after this proclamation, fearing that his children might eventually die because of this barbaric decree.
Later on, when Moses was born, his mother Jochebed nursed him for about three months but couldn’t keep him with herself any more than that. It was obvious to her that if the baby is found he will be killed by the Egyptians, but she did not for once rule out the possibility of a miracle happening.
She knew that the possibility of the baby surviving could be less than 1%, but she realized that not trying to do anything at all to save the baby gives the baby 0% of surviving.
She went ahead to do something that might look very ridiculous. How could someone put his baby in a basket, dump him by the riverside and then expect a good Samaritan to pick him up for good? Jochebed’s decision may sound absurd, but it teaches us a very important lesson on how to be successful in life as enumerated below.

Step 1: Never give up

We are living in world of unforeseen circumstances, the only thing we can do is try our best and leave the rest to God. It gets worse only when we give up. Remember that trying can give you less than 1% chance of being successful, but not trying at all gives you absolute 100% chance of not being successful.
How to be successful in life goes beyond listening to never give up quotes. It entails you never give up. You have to keep pushing. Nobody ever made it successful in life by giving up. You have to be strong and of good courage and be positive, no matter the challenges you face, you have to keep moving, being successful is a marathon and not a race. It might take some time, but you will eventually be victorious. So, no matter what happens on your way, never give up. Even when you have every reason to give up, refuse to do so; as long as there is life, there is hope. Jochebed never gave up even when she had reasons to give up.
Step 2: Believe in yourself
Once you have decided not to give up, the next action is to believe in yourself. Believe in what you are doing, believe in your struggle, believe in God. Have that total trust in God that everything will be alright. This was Jochebed’s strength, she believed in God and in what she was doing. She had no idea of how everything will turn out, but she did what she did anyways, hoping to succeed in her action. This is how to be successful in life, you have to do what you have to do and leave the rest to God. This is a guaranteed way to be successful in life.
Step 3: Put in the necessary effort
To be successful in life requires hard work. If you put in 10 hours to work, and another person puts in 3 hours, you will surely outwork the other person. Hard work pays, it is the secret of every successful person. Learn to work hard and smart. When others are partying work, utilize your time judiciously. Time, they say is money, and that is very true. Get yourself engaged into something meaningful. Get a job, acquire a skill, learn something new today. Improve yourself, start that trade, start that business; no matter how small just make sure you are putting in the necessary effort, and in a no distant time, you will see the result of your effort, you will see how successful you will become.
