I found this author/book via Reese’s Book Club – Even as a 28 y/o, I can be iffy about reading books set at the collegiate level. But this was warm, funny and sweet. I see a lot of myself & experiences in the main character Kiki – and we love that kind of representation. It’s definitely well worth the read.

I’ve been following Bolu Babalola on Twitter for quite some time. This book is clearly written in her blend of multinational pop culture references and love of the romantic. Aptly titled, the romance in this book is sweet without being too syrupy and a little spice: we never get to the point of consummation, but I have no doubt that should the author choose to go that route in the a future, it would be handled well.
All told, this is the book you can feel good about gifting the younger (15+) people in your life without sacrificing your rep AA the cool one in their life. And, it isn’t too chaste and hip for us Aunties to enjoy as well.

This has to be made into a movie and I’m sure that hello sunshine already has the rights to it. This is how modern chick flicks should and probably will look like.
To bring back a genre that has been (reasonably) vilified for being based con the continuous angst of male-pleasing and basing women’s value on their relationship status and/or attractiveness to men.
This is a romance novel that also puts sorority, female baddassness (¿?) and personal integrity at the forefront of a whirlwind and very enticing romance.
Worth a read but even more so, worth a bowl of popcorn.

Bolu has a beautiful way of writing, romance novels are definitely her thing. She writes with flare and wit, whilst making the reader fall in love with the characters. I will admit, being a Londoner and reading some of the slang she used made me cringe a little at first … but I can look past that because her talent takes centre stage and deserves recognition. Bolu is a fantastic writer and I can’t wait to read the work she publishes in the future.
