I ordered this book and thought my download was messed up. Turns out I was messed up. This is a short story. Like some of the other reviewers, I also love Alice Hoffman. Her writing is wonderful. This is an interesting story and I would suggest that anyone with a teenage daughter have them read this story. Alice Hoffman has a great writing style and develops her characters so that you instantly relate to them. I like mystical books so this one skirts the edge of it. It is a great read. I just wish the book was full length. It left me wanting to know what happens to these 3 characters. Just know, you are reading a short story!

CONJURE is a novella told in the writing style of Ray Bradbury. Alice Hoffman has dedicated the story to Bradbury as well. The story has a fairy tale quality as it is a warning to teen girls to be careful of strangers and wishes. The underlying story balances the twilight hours of childhood innocence and the emerging sexuality and longing of adulthood. **Nothing inappropriate in the story. The message is to listen to your gut/intuition. Sometimes a friendship must be sacrificed to overcome evil intentions.

I love Alice Hoffman books, so I purchased this for a flight, not realizing it was a short story. It was excellent, and I tore through it in a matter of minutes. So, other than the disappointment from it being so short, I loved it. I enjoy how her books all have an element of the inexplicable. She can turn ordinary things into something mysterious and ominous.
