As a teenager I loved the swash buckle, the romance, the daring do and the intrigue. As an adult I still loved all that, but the humor left me joyous and dazzled. I took it all so seriously as a young girl. Now I see the tongue in cheek as well as references to scientific knowledge I thought was unknown at the time of the writing. The descriptive prose was so thrillingly done it was like watching a modern quality adventure movie.
Just because you’ve read The Three Musketeers pdf book years ago, or worse, because you’ve seen a movie or three don’t think you know this story. Give yourself a treat and read Dumas and his intricate, exuberant stories of the Musketeers!

I have seen several movie versions of this tale, but none do it true justice.
It is not difficult to like the four main characters, each is unique, memorable and loyal. I appreciated that they were based upon real men, actual musketeers, who lived, loved and fought during that time in French history.
Some of the events in the story are also a matter of historical fact. Dumas has woven an exciting adventure around these men and events, creating a complicated web of intrigue and political machinations.
I am very surprised and also delighted to say that I thoroughly enjoyed this book and I am vastly encouraged to read other novels by this author.
FIVE very deserved stars!

Writing Style – 4/5
Because The Three Musketeers pdf book was written in the nineteenth century (and originally in French) some readers may have a hard time following the writing style. Dumas is at times a bit wordy and the abundance of foreign words and confusing names/titles can make for a slightly more difficult read than some may be used to.
The Characters – 5/5
This is where the book absolutely shines. d’Artagnan and his three friends–Athos, Porthos, and Aramis–are brilliantly created. They provide the reader with a rich reading experience. The antagonists are equally well-rounded.
The Plot – 5/5
The plot is very nuanced and contains many layers. This book is, by no means, a quick read, but the reader will find quite a bit of intrigue and enjoyment in this multifaceted storyline.
Overall – 4.7/5
This is one of my all-time favorite books. If you are an avid reader of classic literature then you would be right to change the “writing style” score to 5/5 making this a perfect score review. I thoroughly enjoyed the reading experience, and I can’t recommend it highly enough.
