4.0 out of 5 stars Suspend Belief

This was a fast paced read, that I completed in a few hours. The one thing I’d have to point out about this book was the number of explanations that could be used for why they had the child. Maybe in a drug-induced haze, her sister asked her to look after him and doesn’t remember.

The excuse about having him cooped up inside could be explained by saying he was her nephew visiting, and he called her mommy because she looked like her sister. To me, a lot of it was far fetched.
However, I think the end made up for it. The characters were all horrible people and it was hard to distinguish the protagonists from the antagonists because they were equally as horrible. I have to say, though, I didn’t see that ending coming and it helped bump up my review.

This was interesting to say the least. I liked how it spoke about the dangers of social media influence culture and how obsession can become deadly. If you like thrillers and can suspend beliefs for a book, give this one a try.

WOW! This is only my second book by Ms. Shiner and it did not disappoint. I believe I will be reading many more in the future.
Be careful what you wish for. Eliza wanted to be ‘instafamous ’ but ended up being stalked by a devoted(?) fan who, once learning her deepest secret, used that knowledge to insinuate herself into the very unwilling Eliza’s life. And let me tell you, Bethany is a certifiable crazy woman who only wants to be Eliza’s friend. She has big plans for Eliza and her family. She doesn’t seem to be in it for the money or she could use extortion at any time.
This was a slow, simmering boil to a shocking conclusion I didn’t see coming and I recommend it for anyone looking for a psychological thriller. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

4.0 out of 5 stars Perfect book club novel

I literally needed to take a deep breath when I finished this book, because I really didn’t see the ending coming. It’s the kind of book that when you finish reading it, you’re not really done with processing it. As humans we’re all flawed and make mistakes, but most of the characters in this book are pretty awful, which evokes a lot of emotions about them.

I did finish the book in one day because I was so curious as to how the situation would be resolved. However, there were times that the story dragged and became rather irritating because they kept talking about doing something but didn’t actually do anything. Worse, when they did act, it was usually a stupid decision.
