Every anniversary the couple exchange traditional gifts–paper, cotton, pottery, tin–and each year Adam’s wife writes him a letter that she never lets him read. Until now. 2.0 out of 5 stars Boring book – did not find it suspenseful at all

I really don’t understand the positive reviews on this book. I kept thinking I was missing something! I never connected with the characters who seemed selfish & one-dimensional. I read through to the end & was still disappointed. Should have asked for a refund earlier in the game as this was not worth my Kindle purchase price.
4.0 out of 5 stars Plenty of twists and turns to keep you guessing

Rock Paper Scissors is the story or Mr. and Mrs. Wright, told from dual perspectives. The Wright’s marriage is in trouble and they think that a trip away may be just the fix that they need. When a trip to the Scottish Highlands falls into their laps they don’t think twice about why they won the trip or what may be waiting for them when they arrive. It doesn’t take long after they arrive at Blackwater Chapel for the two of them to start to feel like their mysterious host may have ulterior motives. Neither Mr. or Mrs. Wright knows what to expect as their trip unfolds but they both know that this trip will be the end of their marriage, one way or another.
Having read Alice Feeney’s previous books I knew to expect twists and turns and I was not disappointed. I love that this book is written from multiple perspectives, using different takes on the same situations. I love the sense of suspense and confusion that Feeney creates, among both reader’s and characters. The only reason that this is not a five star book for me is that I saw the ending coming about halfway through. Great read overall. I will be highly recommending this one to all of my reader friends.
5.0 out of 5 stars Highly recommend even though I’m not a suspense girl!

Book 6 of 2022 — Rock Paper Scissors by Alice Feeney
Let me start by saying I DO NOT like to be scared. I put this book on my “to read” list after seeing it pop up on a “best books” list. This is not my ordinary wheelhouse.
Pros: Holy crap was this book well done. As someone who doesn’t do mystery/suspense, I’m not all that adept at figuring out the tricks. I found myself texting a friend throughout the book saying, “I have no idea what’s going on!” — and I meant that in a good way.
The way the book is laid out is very interesting. The juxtaposition between present day and past anniversaries through letter is unique.
The creepiness factor is magnified by Feeney’s fantastic descriptive abilities. There were times I was glancing over my shoulder on the treadmill because I was sure someone was behind me!
Cons: I don’t have a lot to add here! I felt this book had very few cons except perhaps I could have used a little more information on Adam’s face blindness. I still find myself wondering about some of the sequences in the book.
This book makes me wonder why I don’t read more like it (in broad daylight only, of course). I’m calling it my first 5⭐️ read of 2022 because I started and finished it in 2022. I can’t recommend this book more highly if you like a good scare, twists, and high drama!
5.0 out of 5 stars Another win for Alice Feeney!

It is such a good feeling to dive into an enjoyable book. The last few I have read have left me disappointed and frustrated. Rock, Paper, Scissors is an atmospheric thriller written by Alice Feeney. It is her fourth novel and I have read them all. In fact, her debut novel, Sometimes I Lie was one of the first ARCs I received as a book reviewer and I was completely blown away. I had my then, one-year-old in the car with me while listening to the end and had to pull over so I could deal with the shock of that ending. She has not disappointed me since, and she continues her winning streak with this book as well.
Amelia has won a weekend trip to a secluded renovated Scottish chapel and none too soon because she and her husband, Adam need the getaway to save their marriage. After a long and arduous journey through the snowy roads, they have finally made it to their destination. But they are not in for a cozy weekend getaway. It becomes more and more obvious that this trip was planned by someone who doesn’t want them to survive.
