Revealed in Fire (Demon Days, Vampire Nights World) Summary
The DDVN World story continues, largely told from Reagan’s point of view, but including all major players.
Reagan’s trip down to the underworld was never going to remain a mystery. And now Lucifer is actively looking for the woman and her vampire cohort that raised hell in his domain.
When a band of demons come to the surface with a note asking after Lucifer’s heir, the truth of Reagan’s true lineage can no longer be hidden.
The problem is, the elves remember Lucifer’s past heir, and how he nearly took down the Realm. This time, they do not intend to stand by while Lucifer finds his heir and raises her to power. This time, they’ll cut the problem out at the root.
Reagan went from a nobody in NOLA, to the most wanted woman in all the worlds. It’s time for her to own who and what she is. It’s time for her to fight back.
Strap in, everyone. Reagan is back, and she’s badder than ever!

I’m gonna try to do a no spoilers review here:
This was good, but not Queen Breene’s best. I’m going to hit the hard criticism first. This was definitely not a stand alone story. If you haven’t read the whole arc of three series, this book will quickly lose you and seem much less structured. The characterization of each being relies heavily on reader knowledge of the cast from previous books. The story itself was a little jagged in flow, mostly because of the shift in perspective from character to character. It didn’t really add to the story to shift perspective, and it kinda detracted a little because it was harder to follow. I read this twice, and both times, still had to back track a few sentences to pick up when the POV changed. Because the POV shifted so often, the characters felt flatter than normal, and Penny in particular didn’t really feel like the Penny we’ve come to love in previous stories. Charity comes across almost devoid of personality save for one key scene. We still get plenty of Reagan and Darius, and a better view of Cahal, but this book felt like it tried to cover too many peoples viewpoints at once and it just didn’t work in the amount of pages it had.
Now for the good: there is no author who can make me laugh so spontaneously as KF Breene. Her sense of timing with comic relief is SPOT ON. Reagan’s personality and actions are always flawlessly choreographed with both the character we know from previous books, and the character arc we see in this book. This was not really the novel of character development save for two key characters, (argh no spoilers is jacking me up on this part) but it absolutely delivered for those of us waiting on Reagan to come more into her own. Breene perks up in her action scenes, where the characters really act the truest to their established selves, and the pace lends itself well to the storyline. The story itself is a good mix of believable actions in context of larger story arc and in context of the current storyline, especially in context of larger scale character behavior. So while the individual characters aren’t quite as fleshed out as normal in her other books, they still behave appropriately where it counts. The ending is a delightful cliff hanger, and I already preordered the next book.
Overall, this might not have been her best book out of the arc, yet it was still a fun, wild, enjoyable read. This is one of my favorite authors for multiple reasons, and I don’t feel like that faltered too much on the book, I just didn’t enjoy the format of constantly changing POV that made characters feel like flat projections compared to the normally nuanced and deeply etched characterizations that Breene put out in her trilogies within the bigger arc. I cannot stress enough that if you haven’t read the full arc of the three heroines, Reagan, Penny, and Charity, you will probably miss a ton of meaning and jokes out of this book. They’re all three great, and I’ve bought every single book so that I can reread them forever.
