Disclaimer: I drop this series after chapter 15, so this is my opinion from what I’ve read so far.

—–

Low-key feels like this series is a less hot and interesting version of “I Was Tricked into this Fake Marriage!” lol (*coughs* fake Kaleid *coughs*).

But all jokes aside, I can’t seem to get into the storyline as much as I would love to. Keep in mind that I’m a big simp of fantasy romance isekai/reborn trope, so I don’t easily drop series from this trope.

As someone mentioned in their review, the pacing of the story is very wonky and choppy where lots of things feel left out and/or messy telling of the story. The series tries to keep certain things a mystery, but the FL’s personality and interactions with the ML are very distracting and ruin the flow of the story.

The FL is someone who’s low self-esteem from years of abuse from her family, so I get why she’s insecure. However the way the story shows that aspect makes the FL feels flip-floppy and kind of annoying. There are better ways they can show that side of her like with the FL in “Under the Oak Tree”. I don’t think the FL’s personality are good for a series that try to go for the “murder mystery” genre. If anything, the overall story would have been better if it stuck as a regular romance series.

— Dropped at ch. 15 our of 32 available chapters, might contain spoilers —

Overall, this webtoon is a bit bland. I wouldn’t recommend this for those who are expecting mindblowing or a refreshing plot. It’s just using the typical ‘abused and pushover FL meets a cold scary ML and then they kiss kiss fall in love’ kind of plot. Amongst tons of webtoon with similar premise, this doesn’t stand out story-wise or character-wise.

STORY

Since the main focus of the story so far is their relationship, the explanation for their romantic feelings for each other is sadly inadequate and feels forced. Both of them retain their memories from the previous life but there’s not that much build-up (apart from “I’m scared, ML is scary.. but why is he sweet towards me??!” type of storyline) and the explanation feels like a TL;DR version of their past relationship (only glossed over for several panels).

ART

The artstyle is pleasing to the eyes so I guess it’s good enough. (Although it kinda irks me how the FL has a very persistent loose strands of bangs in the middle of her face even during formal ball LOL. Like, excuse me, ma’am, do you need me to brush and style your hair?)

CHARACTERS

IMO the characters are one-dimensional. The FL is abused by her trash family and therefore becomes a pushover while the ML is a rich, powerful and cold tyrant but only sweet to the FL. That’s all I can say about them. I’m unable to find any unique characteristics from them nor feel sympathetic towards them.

Promising storyline yet poorly executed and oddly generic heroine

I have always been a generous rater but how do I say about this story. It is one of the lower-rung of the korean webtoons? At first I was excited to read about her figuring out why her husband changed but it was barely even a mystery and they solved it and got back together like 3 chapters in, LIKE WHAT?. Then the story turned very generic with this soft, crying, and forgiving heroine that always got her way and people liking her for her “kind heroine-ness” trying find out the person who killed her. There were times she would try to convince people using her “kind and oh-so-understanding heroine-ness” and even when it doesn’t make any sense nor even slightly convincing, people would fall for it and suddenly open up FOR ABSOLUTELY NO REASON. I’m still trying to figure out how these 2 guys like her except for the fact that she is a heroine?

The emotions? Overly dramatic and people would start crying at the weirdest time like the author thinks “crying”means making it emotional but when it’s there for no reason except for to make it look sad (which it was not), it is just weird and cringe (I have always been a fan of soft male protagonist and crying male leads have always had some nice melodic effect for me and I never thought a male protagonist crying could be so cringey but this author just did it) UGH.

I think only people have just started reading webtoon could squeeze some sort of joy from this manhwa.

The pacing is kinda wonky and it just adds to the questions I have about the mc going back in time. Some things are suspicious and not the fun kind of mystery. I honestly only tried this because I have nothing to read atm.

This is very cute. They are both so innocent and pure but also so mature. I LOVE THIS MANGA!!! SUCH ART, MY HEART. The storyline is very good. 10/10 best manga out there.
