Kaleidoscope Pdf Summary

When a beautiful young Frenchwoman and a brilliant American actor meet in wartime Paris, their love begins like a fairy tale but ends in tragedy. Suddenly orphaned, their three children are cruelly separated. Megan, the baby, adopted by a family of comfortable means, becomes doctor in the rural Appalachia. Alexandra, raised in lavish wealth, marries a powerful man whose pride is his pedigree and who assumes that Alexandra is her parents’ natural offspring. Neither of them has the remotest suspicion that she is adopted, or what turbulent tragedy lurks in her past. And Hilary, oldest of the Walker children, remembers them all, and the grief that tore them apart and cast them into separate lives. Feeling the loss throughout her life, and unable to find her sisters, she builds an extraordinary career and has no personal life. When John Chapman, lawyer and prestigious private investigator, is asked to find these three women, he wonders why. Their parents’ only friend, he did nothing to keep them together  as children and has been haunted by remorse all his life. The investigator follows a trail that leads from chic New York to Boston slums, from elegant Parisian salons to the Appalachian hills, to the place where the three sisters face each other and one more final, devastating truth before they can move on.

I haven’t read this novel for over a a couple decades or perhaps longer. Way back when paperback was the only version to read unless the library had a hardback copy.

I always loved the story of the three sisters, individually and together. While I always wanted the together part to last a bit longer or take up more of the novel, “Kaleidoscope” is an interesting novel in regard to how three different upbringings have led to very different lives of each of the sisters. Yet, they are quite similar, not just in looks, but in actions. The character development is strong and realistic even many decades later. The storyline is one that could have occurred many decades ago, yet would be much harder to take place presently.

While many Danielle Steele novels are quite repetitive in terms of restaurants and places ones makes purchases from, etc, this novel, as well as three others are ones I enjoy and the repetition is very minimal.

When I started this book I didn’t think it was for me but as Danielle Steele is so good at doing she weaves a web you soon become entangled in. By the final chapter I didn’t want to put this book down. It’s a story that will make you smile it will make you cry and it will break your heart but the characters will leave a lasting impression on the reader

Kaleidoscope by Danielle Steel is a great read. It is filled with tragedy for one little girl who is separated from her family by a man with no ill intentions. As the family recombines, years of separation seem to dissolve and even forgiveness seems possible.
