A huge fan of Brad Thor, David Balducci, and Vince Flynn/Kyle Mills, I’m recovering from hip replacement and as such, blowing through books and was looking for a new author to follow. I found him.
While not as over the top as Gray Man, in regard to gratuitous violence via the one man wrecking crew, Jason Trapp is relatable in a way that puts you in the action. He is scarred and broken, like most men who put on a uniform, strap on weapons, and head into battle. Be it military or police. His internal angst is what sold me on the book series. While “Birdseye” is not real (wink) it scares the hell out of you to know there is something like it out there monitoring us.
The government will topple from within and Trapp is right in the middle of hell at home with this book. I have the second book ready to go and look forward to more adventures. Hopefully, Dani and he can figure out a way to find the other as they are both a hot mess but deep blue heroic in a way that makes them very relatable.

I want to thank the author for an excellent story. The people are are awesome and it is especially nice to have the main character be a person of such strong conviction and belief in doing what is right. Jason Trapp survived a horror show of a childhood to serve our country, and in doing so became one of the best tier one special operators. Jason continues to serve behind the scenes with the CIA fighting Americas enemies and doing so in spectacular fashion. You won’t be disappointed.

My first novel by Jack Slater and he did not disappoint. I loved Dark State! I was pulled in from the start. I liked the characters. Loved the suspense and action. There’s even a bit of humor thrown in. I’m immediately downloading the next few books in the series and can’t wait to start the next one. I used both Kindle and Audible to read Dark State and I even loved the narrator’s voice which does not happen very often. Kudos Jack Slater! You’ve earned a new loyal reader.
