The beginning hooked me right away, but lost me near the end. Ronnie is a hard character to like. She’s very determined and stubborn, but she second guesses herself a lot. It felt like every decision she made she wanted to take it back and do something different, and usually that something different made her look dumb. “I’ll stay here because it’s safe.” “No, actually, I need to be part of the action.”

I liked the ending of the book. It was pact with action and kept me on my toes, however what I thought and wanted to happen, didn’t. The ending left me with a lot of questions. Who’s the shadow? Will Annie actually go home? Is Ronnie going to be a vampire eventually? I’m only continuing the series because I must know, not because I like the characters.

I came to this after skipping the other Shadow City titles and now feel I need to go back to those to get the whole story in order. This is able to be read without those first. Enough is filled in, and this trilogy is set up well, but going in order would probably help. I want to know more about the characters who were clearly introduced earlier.
