I started reading Chaon’s work with You Remind Me of Me , which was a great introduction to his work. I sought out other books including Fitting Ends , his other collection of shorts stories. Unlike Fitting Ends this collection has no overarching theme which didn’t bother me at all. The stories, as usual, are unified by insightful, clear writing. To start this collection is to finish it quickly as every story leaves you wanting more. I was sad to come to the end of the book as I have now read his entire body of work. I just hope he is working away on his next novel or short story collection.
If you haven’t read it already I highly recommend Choan’s last novel Await Your Reply which is a fantastic read.

these may be just short stories but i have to say they persist in your awareness to a scale that belies their length. there is a peculiar melancholy-tinged patina to many, and certainly the title is apt in capturing a kind of consistent undertone.
i am a fan of short stories particularly, so i admit that probably colors my judgement.
and if you are a fan of short works, i think this book is very much worth the money.

Dan Chaon is the Author Of Among the Missing pdf Book, which was a finalist for the National Book Award and You Remind Me of Me, which was named one of the best books of the year by The Washington Post, Chicago Tribune, San Francisco Chronicle, The Christian Science Monitor, and Entertainment Weekly, among other publications. Chaon’s fiction has appeared in many journals and anthologies, including Best American Short Stories, The Pushcart Prize, and The O. Henry Prize Stories. He has been a finalist for the National Magazine Award in Fiction, and he was the recipient of the 2006 Academy Award in Literature from the American Academy of Arts and Letters. Chaon lives in Cleveland, Ohio, and teaches at Oberlin College, where he is the Pauline M. Delaney Professor of Creative Writing. His new novel, Await Your Reply, will be published in late August 2009.
