The story follows Princess Maren, who sold her soul to the sea witch Edonia in exchange for the love of Prince Aerik. Ten years later, Maren is miserable in her marriage to Aerik, who is cruel and abusive. When Maren and Aerik are taken hostage by a band of pirates, led by the fearsome Captain Ramsay “Bones” Battista, Maren sees an opportunity to escape her fate.

Bones is a dangerous man, but he is also a powerful one. He has a score to settle with Edonia, and he is willing to help Maren if she can help him. Maren and Bones strike a deal, and they set sail on a journey to find Edonia and break the curse that binds Maren to Aerik.

Along the way, Maren and Bones learn more about each other and their pasts. They also face many dangers, including pirates, sea monsters, and Edonia herself. In the end, Maren must decide whether to break the curse and return to her old life, or to embrace her new life with Bones.
