My 9 year old read this book cover to cover on Friday, January 7th. I’ve never seen her so engrossed in a book before. She loved it so much that she stayed up until nearly midnight (parent approved) in order to finish it. Then she demanded that we buy the next book in the series. We did. The rest of the series will be here on Thursday and she is so excited that she’s counting the days. This is the first book she has finished reading that is longer than 4 chapters and also isn’t an audiobook. If you, dear review reader, have a reluctant reader, I highly recommend this book. If your child loves Werewolves and the supernatural then this book is for them.

Our son has struggled to stay hooked with some book series’, even some my wife and I enjoyed as kids, but these caught his attention, and he flew through these books! He showed some interest in Monster stories last year, so we tried out this Werewolf Max series (and Goosebumps). He struggled with a few others, but he’s hooked on these! He’s a little younger than the age recommendation, but he reads far above his grade level – when we can keep his interest – so we took a chance. These are well written with a good pace and a descriptive style which helps keep him engaged to flow through the pages. There ARE a few brief paragraphs of graphic violence (it’s about werewolves fighting zombies, afterall) which are a little older than my 6 year old son, but they’re short and well applied, and the story moves on in a lighter tone for most of the book. I would expect the books would keep the attention of 7-10 year old kids, with some younger, but skilled readers able to follow along well, and some older readers still entertained by the story lines.
