The war of Two Queens Summary (Amazon)

From the desperation of golden crowns…

Casteel Da’Neer knows all too well that very few are as cunning or vicious as the Blood Queen, but no one, not even him, could’ve prepared for the staggering revelations. The magnitude of what the Blood Queen has done is almost unthinkable.

And born of mortal flesh…

Nothing will stop Poppy from freeing her King and destroying everything the Blood Crown stands for. With the strength of the Primal of Life’s guards behind her, and the support of the wolven, Poppy must convince the Atlantian generals to make war her way—because there can be no retreat this time. Not if she has any hope of building a future where both kingdoms can reside in peace.

A great primal power rises…

Together, Poppy and Casteel must embrace traditions old and new to safeguard those they hold dear—to protect those who cannot defend themselves. But war is only the beginning. Ancient primal powers have already stirred, revealing the horror of what began eons ago. To end what the Blood Queen has begun, Poppy might have to become what she has been prophesied to be—what she fears the most.

As the Harbinger of Death and Destruction.

Wow. Just. So much wow. First off, this is definitely not a stay up all night and read book. There are so many questions answered and brought up let alone action and decision making in this book. I literally had to stop reading after a few chapters to process it all before I could read more. THIS IS NOT A BAD THING, I promise! Bonus- we get Poppy AND Casteel’s pov and it adds so much to the story. This whole world of Blood and Ash has been an amazing experience from book one to book 4 and this book in particular for me was just …. wow. I’m definitely still processing this- probably one of the best book hangovers I’ve ever had!

I have to preface this with my words are very lacking to the book I have just read. No matter what I say it will not do it justice, but here’s a glimpse.
I will be honest and have to say I was a little prideful going into this book thinking I’ve read all of Jennifer’s books and I was ready to tackle it.
I will also be the first to admit, I was wrong! This is why she is the Queen! There is so much that comes together from the other books in the From Blood and Ash series AND Shadow in the Embers series. It was shock and awe, followed by aftershocks that continued until the end of the book. This is writing. The characters you thought you loved, are beloved beyond words now. Poppy and Cas, including the other supporting characters we know are so well developed in this book on a whole other level! You will meet new one and may have a new favorite! You will feel all the emotions, and just when you think it’s safe, you’re not, you really aren’t! It will steal your breathe days after finishing it. Incredibly amazing.

I may have said this before but I sincerely believe this is one, if not my favorite book in the FBAA series. Jennifer Armentrout continues to give it her ALL. Guys… you want to read the this book.
I Note: If you haven’t read A Shadow in the Embers, I highly recommend you do!

This book is a RIDE! The story builds and expands and, honestly, every moment matters. Every choice. Every conversation. Every action. It ALL matters.

At times, TWOTQ is so heavy due to the depth of emotion and the number of plot points, reveals, and surprises. But there is also so much humor, growth, and love. I strongly encourage reading ASITE first because it helps bridge the gaps and piece together some major plot points, characters, and history of the realms.

We all know Poppy is amazing at the end of TCOGB…but here? She is absolutely stunning in all her power and glory. The friendships she builds with the Wolven, and the respect she gains as a leader, on her own, without Cas, is beautiful. Does their separation hurt? Yup. But I believe her time away from Cas gives her the space to become so much more – – –

To find her strength.
To find her voice.
To find Poppy.
There are so many things I want to say about this book – so many areas I need to talk about – but I refuse to spoil it for anyone.

3.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable enough, nothing wildly unexpected

So I know there has been a lot of controversy around this book from people who are disappointed in how it’s progressed who have strong feelings about that, but honestly nothing in it was particularly surprising. There was a tone shift for some characters which I think would have worked better with more showing of relationships developing and less internal monologues but it wasn’t wildly left field either.

I feel like this book was very much in keeping with book 3, our 2 mc are separated with one held captive. The difference being a dual pov in this book. If you didn’t like book 3 you probably won’t like this and visa versa. Personally I like 1 and 2 the most and the spin off, and then these are ok. I think that’s because the romance was the big seller in this series and now that is resolved and you have more attempt at plot and less character driven I’m not sure it works as well.

I did feel it was overly long and the story didn’t pick up until the captive plot was resolved, but part of that is just a personal dislike of that kind of story being dragged out. If a character is kidnapped/captive/in mortal peril I need to be resolved quickly as I do a it to tense to enjoy.

That said, when it did get going I really enjoyed it. I would like to see more from other characters, but I will be reading the next book. Malik and Millie are a highlight and may fill the void that is created when the tension goes when the pairing of the mc happens.
