I’m reviewing this book, but every Louise Penny novel is a quiet revelation. Each one is a mystery, hinging on a dark act of human evil. But the evil is wrapped in the other end of humanity – beings so real and good they step into your personal universe and take up residence. And there are words woven together to create descriptions so beautiful they almost hurt. For example: “wide-plank pine floors, stained amber by time and sunlight,” and “Three craggy pine trees had stood at the far end of the green for as long as anyone remembered, like wise men who’d found what they were looking for.” Sometimes her words are so arresting you have to pause to let the majesty flow through you. I will read every book she writes.

Eliot ) is the third in the series and the third book I have read by Penny.
The Plot: The story opens on Easter Sunday in the small isolated Quebec village of Three Pines about twenty miles south of Montreal. A woman in her 40s named Madeleine has died while attending a seance at the spooky old Hadley House (long thought to be hunted. She was already been diagnosed with breast cancer. She lived with Hazel her best friend from college days. Hazel’s grown sister Sophie is also living with Hazel. Gamache and his police team investigate the foul deed. Chief Inspector Gamache is also dealing with his arrest of high police official named Arnot. It seems everyone in the town is a suspect!
