Chapter 1

Danika huddled in her cold, empty cell.
One whole week.
She had been here for seven days, and every second gnawed at her sanity. She craved the outside—anywhere at all that wasn’t this barren, lifeless space. Only a single bunk bed stood against the wall, the only furniture in the bleak room.

She hadn’t seen her captor since the day he brought her here. That day, he had walked in, eyes colder than ice, and collared her.

His slave. His property. That’s what he called her.

A chill ran down Danika’s arms. She had never seen hatred that raw in anyone’s eyes before.

King Lucien hated her. Hated her deeply.

And Danika knew why. Oh, she knew better than anyone.

Just a week ago, she was Princess Danika—daughter of King Cone of Mombana. She was feared, respected. No one dared look her in the eyes. No one crossed her path unless they had no regard for their life. Her father made sure of it.

Now, her father was dead. Their kingdom had fallen to the ruthless Alpha King Lucien.
And Danika… was his slave.

The sound of footsteps and rattling chains snapped her out of her thoughts. The cell door opened and a guard stepped in, holding a tray of food.

Her stomach growled at the sight. She hadn’t eaten since morning, and judging by the dim light seeping in, it was already evening.

“Here’s your food, Prrriiinncess.” The guard dragged the word with obvious disgust. Everyone here hated her. That much she could tell.

She raised her chin defiantly and said nothing.

“The King will be here in a few hours. Be ready to receive him,” the guard announced before turning and walking out.

Fear slid through her like ice water. She wasn’t ready to face him again. But after a week, she knew it was inevitable.

Two Hours Later

The sun was nearly down when Danika heard more footsteps.

THE KING HAS ARR—

“Do not announce me, Chad,” came the curt reply. That voice—it sent a deeper chill down Danika’s spine. In all her twenty-one years, she had never heard anything so cold.

“I apologize, my King,” Chad murmured quickly.

There was the sound of chains… and then, the door creaked open.

Only one person entered. Danika heard the soft, controlled footstep—it could only be him. The door closed behind him.

Her once-empty cell no longer felt barren.

She looked up, her eyes burning with her own hatred as they locked with his.

He was massive like a warrior, yet carried himself like a king. Danika knew he was thirty-five, but he seemed larger than life itself. Even when he had been enslaved by her father, that royal air had never left him—no matter the beatings, no matter the torment.

They stared at each other. Malice thickened the air between them.

But Lucien’s gaze wasn’t just filled with hate.
It was loathing. Pure, unfiltered rage.

His face could have been handsome, but a thick scar marred one cheek, making his appearance savage and terrifying.

He walked towards her, crouched low, and ran a hand through her long, nearly white-blond hair.

Then he yanked—hard.

Danika winced in pain as he forced her to look directly into his ocean-blue eyes.

“When I come in here, you will address me,” he said, voice low and lethal. “You don’t just sit there like a coward and stare. Or I’ll punish you.”

His eyes glinted red. “And believe me—I would love nothing more than to punish you.”

Danika nodded weakly. She hated him. Hated this monster of a man. But she hated pain more. She’d do anything to avoid it.

“Yes… my King,” she whispered.

Disgust flashed across his face. His hand moved down to rest on her barely-covered breast.

He circled her nipple through the thin fabric, then pinched—hard.

Danika cried out in pain.

He still held her nipple tightly, eyes boring into hers. “I am not your king. I will never be your king. I am a king to my people. You are not my people. You are my slave, Danika. My property.”

She nodded quickly, desperate for him to let go.

But instead, he twisted again, harder. Her eyes watered.

“You will address me as Master, and you will serve me—like my servants do. Only more.”

His lips twisted into a savage smile. “Surely, you know how a slave serves her master. After all… your father taught you well?”

“Yes! Yes!” she sobbed, curling her hands into fists. “Please, just let go!”

He pinched harder. “Yes… what?”

“Yes… M-Master…” she choked, tears overflowing.

He released her breast immediately and stood up, his expression unreadable.

Without a word, he grabbed her flimsy top and ripped it to shreds, exposing her to his cold, emotionless gaze.

Humiliation burned through Danika. She clutched at her skirt but didn’t try to cover herself. She wouldn’t give him the satisfaction.

He looked at her body. No lust, no desire. Nothing.

Instead, he reached out, palmed her abused breast, and caressed it.

“Stand,” he ordered.

On shaking legs, Danika obeyed, staring at the floor through blurry eyes.

“Chad!” he barked.

Danika flinched and instinctively moved back, but Lucien’s grip on her breast stopped her.

“Your Highness?” Chad entered quickly, eyes darting to his King.

“Take a good look at this slave, Chad. Do you like what you see?”

Danika’s face burned as Chad’s eyes roamed over her body. But she refused to look away. She glared at him with defiance.

Lust clouded Chad’s face. “Can I touch?” he asked eagerly.

“Another time. Get out.”

Chad lingered a moment longer, exchanging a look with the King. There was something in his gaze… not hate. Something else Danika couldn’t place.

Then, he turned and walked out.

“Guards!” Lucien called, calm and cold.

Two guards entered almost instantly.

“Yes, Your Highness.”

“Tell the servants to bathe my slave once I’m done here. Get her clean and have her in my chambers in three hours.”

“Yes, Your Highness.” The guards glanced at Danika but obeyed, reluctantly leaving.

Danika met Lucien’s gaze with burning hatred in her eyes.

He finally let go of her.

“I will hurt you so much, you will crave pain. I will do to you everything you and your father did to me and my people. And more. I will share you with whomever I choose. Train you to be the most obedient of dogs.”

Fear surged through her, but she didn’t let it show. She had known this was coming.

Lucien’s lips twitched, emphasizing the scar on his cheek. “I will break you, Danika.”

“You can never break me, you monster!” she spat before she could stop herself.

Her eyes widened in horror.

Slaves did not talk back.

Lucien didn’t disappoint. He grabbed her collar chain and yanked hard.

Danika cried out in pain.

He tilted her chin up, steel in his grip. “I love seeing so much fire… because I will enjoy putting it out. You have no idea what I have planned for you. Or maybe you do. After all… you once trained slaves.”

My father trained slaves, she wanted to scream.

Hatred poured from his gaze. “Your training starts tonight. You will be in my bed.”

He turned and walked out without another word, a lethal shadow disappearing into the darkness.
