So will her best friend Cardyn, and Brohn, the handsome, enigmatic boy she’s avoided all her life. The bad news? Recruitment isn’t what any of them expected.Weeks of training await. Military and psychological tests, escape rooms, hand-to-hand combat. The Recruits are told they’re the key to winning the war. But with each day that passes, things begin to make less sense. If only Kress had been able to bring her trained raven, Render, with her.If only none of them had ever had to come to this place.

The book is a good read. It is fun. You have to take a leap of faith when reading it, as some of the plot holes can be easily filled. I too think the story takes way too much time building the moment. This book has a bit more romance/romantic tones than other dystopian strong female antagonist books. Definitely geared toward the young female reader in certain aspects.

I am on book three. I will not include spoilers, but I like how the author incorporates the current political atmosphere of America of 2022 into the book, and how the current administration is eroding our civil liberties and rights in the quest for power and dominance with the goal being only one political socialist party. I think an attempt is to frame one political party more than the other, but one can’t argue with the current state of politics in America when reading this book. Does contain some environmental hogwash about gas cars vs clean cars, but what does it matter in a nation living in a post-nuclear detonation(s) world? Seems trivial to input in the book(s).
