City of Demons Pdf Summary

Seduction is Georgina Kincaid’s weapon—and elixir—of choice. The Seattle-based shape-shifting succubus is used to getting what she wants, when she wants. Until she falls for a mere mortal…

Georgina is finally, irrevocably in love, and she doesn’t care who knows it. There’s just one problem. If she and her boyfriend, Seth Mortensen, succumb to their all-consuming desire, the consequences will be dire: Seth will be destroyed. Of course, no one cares about their struggle to keep their hands to themselves, especially not Georgina’s archdemon boss, who is sending her to L.A. to sit on a demon-run tribunal. An immortal has been murdered—and the high court is determined to find the killer and set an example…

Bribery, corruption, murder—the three demons on trial will stop at nothing to avoid a guilty verdict. But all the dark magic zipping through the atmosphere must be going to Georgina’s head, because suddenly she suspects that Seth is up to no good. Now she can’t help but wonder how far she’d be willing to go to make sure she doesn’t lose the love of her immortal life

So I was about 20% into book three when I started this. I was in a spot where I couldn’t listen to anything but I could read so this seemed like the perfect fit when I found out about it. Short and sweet this novella isn’t necessary to the development of the story but it really does set the stage for some things in book three. It also broke my heart a bit. This novella isn’t necessary to the overall story thus far as I can tell but it really added some insight into not only the world but Georgina and Seth.

Georgina is sent to the demonic version of jury duty to stand in for her boss. An immortal was murdered and they are to have a tribunal where its not really about truth and justice but bribes and power plays. Since he pulled her away from her vacation away with Seth her boss did decide to send Seth with her which may be more trouble than help as Georgina begins to think Seth is up to something.

The trial itself was rather fun. I loved the idea of the one bribe and what it would mean. The whole concept was interesting for sure to see the inner workings of demon court. Still the happy fun times I was expecting for my couple broke my heart a bit. Some things are done and it left me rather upset at Seth, though I do acknowledge both made mistakes. In the end the court case was a win for me and the other aspect not so much as it knocked me off my happy place for my ship.

First off, let me say I’m a middle-aged (straight) man and I love everything Richelle Mead has written that I have read thus far.. Why? A lot of reasons. She writes like people talk and think. (and behave) Her characters have complex motivations. (and are complex themselves, for the most part) Richelle is apparently an old enough soul to understand that life isn’t and people aren’t one extreme or another. Or just a perceptive human being. Dark humor and irony abounds throughout all of her works. The stories never drag. They move at just the right pace. Richelle Mead crafts characters that are real (despite being fantasies), and intimacies between them that most of us can only dream of in our lives, complete with all the nuances of love, hate, misunderstandings, and everything else, sometimes simultaneously. She ‘gets’ human relationships. I personally read everything from technical manuals to hard sci-fi, biographies, dramas, historical novels, horror, light fluff and most everything in between. Sometimes Ms. Mead’s novels read a bit like a romance novel, and I can do without some of the somewhat overwrought IMHO sex scenes (though they’re still pretty hot, and sex sells of course), but her writing is still on target, and she tells such a great story, that I have been a fan for years and will continue to read most anything she deigns to put out there.

Apologies for not directly reviewing the novella, but I too was pleased to find something in the Succubus series I hadn’t read yet.

Mead won me as a fun with this long ago completed series. I feel it is her best work. I had not known about the existence of this story (from a prior anthology). The plot takes Georgina and Seth to a demon trial. Mead’s take on the demon world has always been hilarious and she does not disappoint.

I felt the plot line with Beth was contrived but overall I was so happy to be back in this world that I would rate this a very good read. Definitely big for those who give never read the series; it won’t have the lush backstory for them that this book deserves. I wish Mead would return to similar genre fiction; she really shines with this world.

“City of Demons” is not a new story in the Georgia Kincaid series. This novella was published in an anthology while the series was ongoing. I was over the moon when I mistakenly thought Richelle Mead had written a new novella, but I was still happy to revisit this awesome series. I missed out on this novella the first time around, so the story was new for me. If you have never read a novel in this series, I would start with the first book, “Succubus Blues.” “City if Demons” could be read as a stand-alone, but I wouldn’t recommend doing so because the story jumps right into Georgina and Seth’s relationship troubles. Reading the previous books will provide a better background for the couple.

“City of Demons” focuses on Seth and Georgina’s visit to LA where Georgina will serve on a demon jury. The premise is original and humorous. Georgina and her fellow demons must decide who is guilty of killing a powerful demon, and, of course, everything is not as it seems. There is also a secondary plot involving Georgina and Seth’s relationship, which is a major theme of the entire series.

“City of Demons” was a wonderful dive back into Georgina Kincaid’s world that made me want to read the series again.
